6th Annual Paint Natchez Pink Proclamation Event to be Held October 12
NATCHEZ, MS – In honor and recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Merit Health Natchez is leading its sixth annual community-wide campaign to Paint Natchez Pink throughout the month of October. The entire month is dedicated to educating everyone about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.
On October 12 at 11 a.m. on the steps of Natchez City Hall, Mayor Dan Gibson will officially proclaim this day as Paint Natchez Pink by reading a proclamation and recognizing those in our community who are valiantly fighting breast cancer and those who have conquered their fight. It will also be a time to remember those who lost their battle.
“All of us have the power to spread hope and awareness of this disease during this month,” said Kay Ketchings, director of marketing for Merit Health Natchez. “Whether you are a home owner, business owner, restaurateur, retail or industry employer, you can be a part of the Paint Natchez Pink campaign. Please consider decorating your home or business with pink ribbons or display, hang strands of pink lights, or use pink chalk to write messages of hope to honor co-workers battling breast cancer, just to name a few ideas. Most importantly, we want you to attend the proclamation reading on October 12, wearing pink of course, and be a part of this event that can bring our community together for a great cause,” concluded Ketchings.
At the proclamation event on October 12, breast cancer survivors and their families will be the guests of honor. There will be music, an array of education and awareness displays, as well as photo opportunities in the hospital’s giant pink chair.
“We have all been affected by breast cancer by either knowing someone going through this disease or having family members affected,” said Kevin Samrow, chief executive officer of Merit Health Natchez. We encourage you to help us spread the word about the importance of regular mammography screenings for the women in our lives. We hope to see you on Thursday, October 12, as we want our community to see firsthand the commitment and support of not only our hospital, but other local businesses and individuals, for this unique, fun and memorable way to create awareness,” concluded Samrow.
