Merit Health Natchez Names Employee and Managers of the Year

NATCHEZ, Miss., — Merit Health Natchez recently bestowed its highest honors to the 2022 employee and managers of the year – Lawrence Boone, security, Employee of the Year; Dee Ham, director of risk management, Non-Clinical Manager of the Year; and Stephanie Rehms, director and nurse manager of inpatient rehabilitation, Clinical Manager of the Year.
“Healthcare requires a special blend of great people skills, tireless energy and the ability to work well under pressure,” said Garett May, chief executive officer of Merit Health Natchez. “People who work in healthcare share the common desire to help others and make a difference in people’s lives. It is a pleasure to recognize Lawrence, Dee and Stephanie for their dedication to our patients, and to providing outstanding care.”
Lawrence Boone works in our security department and was recently promoted to security officer lead. According to Jason Lynch, director of facilities management and security, “Lawrence goes above and beyond every single day he is working. He has a positive, cheerful attitude and greets everyone he sees with a warm smile and an offer to assist.” Lawrence can be seen escorting patients to and from their vehicles when assistance is needed, all the while ensuring safety for employees, patients and visitors. Lawrence is known by employees for his diligence to providing safety, giving great pep talks and offering an occasional snack or two when he knows someone has had a rough day.
Dee Ham, BSN, R.N., is the director of risk management, as well as the patient safety officer and medical staff coordinator. Colleagues and other directors have described Dee as extremely dedicated and loyal to Merit Health Natchez. In all of her roles, she works tirelessly to protect our patients and staff while maintaining an excellent rapport with all of the professionals she encounters in her roles. “It is obvious Dee loves her what she does and takes her responsibilities very seriously,” said Patricia Marks, chief quality officer. “She is detail oriented, professional, respectful and confidential, all traits that are crucial in her roles.”
As the director of the inpatient rehab unit and nurse manager, Stephanie Rehms, BSN, R.N., is known to be self-driven, focused and diligent in achieving the expectations and responsibilities expected of her. “Stephanie has excellent leadership skills and is respected by her staff and colleagues,” said Lee Hinson, chief nursing officer. “Stephanie assumed additional duties during the year that further highlighted her excellent leadership and clinical skills. She can always be counted on to exceed expectations and offer her assistance wherever needed. Stephanie is a true asset to our leadership team.”
